Beverly Thomsen Obituary

Cadillac - Beverly Jean Thomsen, longtime resident of Cadillac passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, January 29, 2026. She was 91.

Bev was born one of ten children to Alfred and Mary (Lanning) Lamphere, on October 31, 1934, in Cadillac. She was a graduate of Cadillac High School in 1952 and went on to the Mercy School of Nursing graduating in 1953, and then Ferris College earning her Registered Nursing degree in 1975.  On June 5, 1954, Beverly was wed in holy matrimony to William "Bill" Myrle Thomsen, at the Selma Street Methodist Church. 

Bev made her living working as an RN for Mercy Hospital in Cadillac, where she covered numerous departments over her 34 year career.  She was proud of her work and career as a nurse working in the ICU, Post and Pre-op, and the OB department to name a few.  Bev was a frequent visitor to the Cadillac Senior Center where she could often be found playing bingo or socializing.  In addition she would visit the Gathering Place Senior Center in Honor where she could enjoy music, a meal, and fellowship with others.  Bev just enjoyed getting out and about. She will be deeply missed and remembered by many.

Beverly is survived by her loving daughter, Kathy (Ben) Nelson of Cadillac; daughter-in-law, Jill Walker; seven grandchildren, Janelle (Allen) Doan, Tim Nelson, Luke Nelson, Tony (Genna) Nelson, Ted (Andrea) Nelson, Elise Thomsen and Erin Thomsen; ten great-grandchildren, Sawyer Doan, Mason Doan, Rachel Doan, Wesley Nelson, Mylan Nelson, Ashton Nelson, Payton Nelson, Wyatt Nelson, Addison Nelson and Luka Repko; her sister, Vonnie (Jay) Thiebaut; sisters-in-law, Kathy Lamphere, Karen Geeseman, Hilma Lamphere, Eva Barnes, Erma Edberg, Nadine (Bob) Johnson, Colleen (Richard) McClure, Sue Thomsen, brothers-in-law, Don Thomsen, Dan (Cindi) Swiler, Al (Sherry) Thomsen, and Brian Thomsen; a longtime companion the family dog, Lea; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and many, many, other loving family members, co-workers, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband,  Bill M. Thomsen in 2016; her son, Karl W. Thomsen in 2018; and her parents.  Bev was also preceded in death by her sisters, Marge (Roy) LaRoche, Janet (Dick) Mackey, Edna (Marshal) McIntyre, and Judy (Dick) Geeseman; her brothers, Bob (Jeanne) Lamphere, Don Lamphere and Gordie Lamphere; brothers-in-law, Wes Barnes, Keith Edberg, Dick Thomsen, and Louis Taylor; and her sisters-in-law, Loretta Swiler, Rose Thomsen, and Barb Mackey.

Visitation for friends and family to gather and visit will be held at the Hitesman-Holdship Funeral Home on Monday, February 9th, 2026 from 2pm until 4:30pm. Interment will be at the Selma Township Cemetery alongside her beloved Bill come spring. Memorial contributions may be directed to Wexford Senior Center, Benzie Senior Resources or Munson Hospice.
