Bonnie E. Harris, age 85 of Lake City, passed away March 31, 2026, at her home under Hospice care and with family by her side.
Bonnie was born in Pioneer Township of Missaukee County on March 25, 1941 to Jesse and Evelyn (Kerns) Hornbaker.
She was a 1959 graduate of Lake City High School and performed baton twirling as a drum majorette with the band.
Bonnie married James R. Nixon in 1959 and he preceded her in death in 1999. She married Bernard “Bud” Harris in 2000 and he preceded her in death in 2020.
Bonnie was an incredibly kind and loving woman. She always had a compliment for anyone she met. Her family was her absolute greatest joy. Her favorite thing about the big house she lived in was all of the room she had for all of her family to come and stay. She really was the cornerstone of her family.
She retired as a paraprofessional from Lake City Elementary School, where she touched the lives of many students and colleagues. Bonnie was also deeply involved in her church community, a place that meant so much to her. She found great joy in dancing with Carl at The Merritt Golden Agers. She loved her flowers and enjoyed watching nature and all the wildlife in her backyard.
Bonnie is survived by a special friend, Carl Hutchinson of Lake City and her three daughters: Tammy Waldo, Tracie Nixon and Tonja (Jeff) Hinkston all of Lake City.
She is also survived by her five grandchildren: Brock (Meagan) Waldo, Aaron (Christin) Waldo, Ethan (Kayla) Hinkston, Collin (Hannah) Hinkston and Braden Hinkston and seven great grandchildren.
Surviving her also is a step son, Gregg Harris (his partner, Andrew New) and step daughter, Jamie (John) Boos and their children, Alexa, Alec and JJ.
Bonnie was also preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Ronnie Hornbaker and sister in law, Pat Hornbaker and her son in law, Kurt Waldo.
Funeral services will take place 11:00 a.m., on Tuesday, April 7, 2026 at the Young-Holdship Funeral Home in Lake City with Brock Waldo officiating.
There will be visitation on Monday, April 6, from 5:00 to 7:00 pm at the funeral home and also visitation beginning one hour prior to services on Tuesday. Burial will take place in the Lake City Cemetery
