Candice "Candy" Holdship Green Obituary

Candice "Candy" Holdship Green, of Bay City and formerly of the Ubly and Bad Axe areas, passed away on Friday, September 3, 2021 at Brian's Hospice House in Essexville, Michigan. She was 75.

Candice was born on July 18,1946 in Bad Axe, Michigan to Clifford and Sophie Golding. She lived up to her nickname "Candy" by always sharing her bright and colorful personality, which could be seen in her smile, sense of humor, and fashion. She was known for her fun costume jewelry, which she loved.

Candy was a graduate of Bad Axe High School, class of 1964. After completing high school, she went on to achieve a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education from Central Michigan University. This degree was her ticket to a career working as a 3rd and 6th grade teacher at Ubly Community Schools, a job in which she completely flourished. However, her greatest joy was teaching elementary music. Candy was an incredibly gifted piano player and had an appreciation for the arts. For years, she put together the holiday music program for the school. Her true passion shined through music as she taught and shared this love with the students. Candy served the school and community in this capacity for 30 years before retiring.

Candy began her family with her first husband, Richard Holdship and daughter, Lisa.  She later enjoyed three loving grandchildren and cherished spending time them. “Grams” loved being a part of their life and was eager to attend every sporting event, proudly cheering them on.

Candy later entered into marriage with Michael Green of Bay City, MI. Michael’s sons, Michael Jr. and Patrick, and their families, became a special part of Candy’s life as well. The couple shared many special memories together until Michael’s passing on June 26, 2019.

Candy was a faithful member of the Westminster Presbyterian Church of Bay City. She thoroughly enjoyed her retirement.  Candy spent her spare time in three golf leagues and going out to lunch with her friends, which she did up until a few weeks before she passed. Candy will be dearly missed by her family and friends.

Candy is survived by her loving daughter, Lisa (Dan) Chumbler of Bozeman, Montana; grandchildren, Chloe, Olivia and Finn Chumbler; first husband, Richard Holdship of Ubly and many other loving family members and friends.  Candy particularly cherished her relationship with her sisters-in-law, all of whom were a big part of her life.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Clifford and Sophie Golding; her second husband, Michael Green; and a brother, Leonard Golding.

A Celebration of Life will take place at a later date. Interment will take place at Saint Andrews Cemetery in Saginaw. Condolences and memories may be shared online at www.holdshipfuneralhomes.com.
