Coralie "Sissy" Murray-Mervau Obituary

Coralie “Sissy” Murray-Mervau passed away peacefully on May 21, 2025, surrounded by those who loved her most. She leaves behind a legacy of laughter, generosity, and a spirit that lit up every room.

Born July 20, 1939 to Earl and Dorothy (Park) Helsel, and raised in Pioneer Township, Michigan, Sissy was one of nine siblings in a family rooted in the Christmas tree business. From a young age, she was known for her strong will, sharp wit, and even sharper sense of humor. She could make you laugh until you cried—and often did.

Sissy was a true original: bold, hilarious, and fiercely loyal. She was always cooking up something—be it a home-cooked meal, a new business venture, or a practical joke. She was an exceptional cook, known for feeding crowds with love, laughter, and second helpings.

Over the years, she found success in many entrepreneurial pursuits, but her greatest joy came from giving to others. She gave freely, generously, and without hesitation.

Her heart belonged to her family and community. She spent countless winters in the Missaukee Mountain ski lodge kitchen, making sure every patron was fed and felt at home. Her presence there, like everywhere, was unforgettable.

She is survived by her beloved son, Keith; her niece and close companion, Kim; and many cherished nieces, nephews, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

She is also survived by her siblings: Earl “Mann” (Sylvia) Helsel, Edwin (Judy) Helsel, Charlie (Marge) Helsel, June (Larry) Anderson, Orlena “Tyke” Beerens, and sisters-in-law June (Keith) Nedry and Terril Helsel.

Sissy was preceded in death by her first husband, Donald Murray; her second husband, Jerry Mervau; her son, Kent Murray; three brothers, Floyd “Lolly” Helsel, Clifford “Kippy” Helsel, Roland “Bubber” Helsel and her deeply loved grandson, Donnie Murray.

A visitation will be held at Young-Holdship Funeral Home at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 24, followed by a service at 11:00. She will be laid to rest in Norwich Township Cemetery, with a gathering to follow at Pioneer Township Hall.
