Waterford - Cynthia Marie Soderberg "Cindy" of Waterford passed away on April 17, 2026, after a hard-fought battle against cancer.
She was born to Shirley and Robert Chalker on May 6, 1962, in Lansing, Michigan and graduated from Lake City High School in 1980. Cindy worked for General Motors for 23 years. Cindy was a loving daughter, sister, aunt and wife who had a zest for life that few can match. She loved to be around people, so after retiring from GM, she worked at Kroger and brought joy to countless customers and coworkers' faces with her energetic and loving personality. Cindy loved and nurtured others with her outstanding cooking skills, often preparing large meals for her family and making sure that everyone she encountered always had a full stomach. If you had the privilege of spending time with Cindy, you immediately became part of her family.
Cindy loved traveling internationally, visiting several countries with her mom, sisters, and niece where they shared lots of laughs and created amazing memories exploring other cultures. Her hobbies included making jewelry and she turned that hobby into a small home-based business, Cindy's Jems, selling her beautiful beads at various craft shows around Michigan. Cindy is remembered for her patriotism, avid support of veterans, and her active role in the Veterans of Foreign War Auxiliary in Waterford where she held various leadership positions and could always be counted on to step up, lend a hand, assist a fellow member, or support an event.
Cindy was preceded in death by a husband, Ted Soderberg; brother, Ernest Kobiska; sister, Anita Byrnes; and grandparents, Rose and Harold Ruhf. She is survived by her spouse, Mike Zuber of Waterford, her parents Shirley and Gary Piellusch of Lake City, Robert and Shirley Chalker of Mio; siblings, Cecilia Byrnes of Lansing, Kevin (Lisa) Byrnes of Fort Myers, Florida, Susan (Norman) Snyder of Bath, Patrick (Teresa) Byrnes of Lake City, Julia Kobiska of Sasebo, Japan, Mary (Mark) Torry of Lake City, Bob (Vicky) Chalker of Wyoming, Jon (Cheryl) Chalker of Grandville, Frank (Ann) Chalker of Waterford and Gwynn Zuber of Lake City, Susan (Tom) Boettcher of Eagle River, Wisconsin, Sheryl Piellusch (Daryl) of Eagle River, WI, Sandra Piellusch-Wilson (Stephen Negri) of Tucson, Arizona; step-daughters, Renee (Eric), and Katie; grandchildren, Owen, Eli and Adley; Nieces and nephews, Amanda (Nathan), Brian, Candace (Jordan), Cody, Colby, Corey, Samantha, Kirsten, Lyle, Ethan (Samatha), Colton (Stephanie), Keegan (Lea), Amber, Charity and many great-nieces and nephews.
