Lake City - Dana Kay Thomas, of Lake City passed away unexpectedly on Monday, June 8, 2026, at Munson Medical Center in Traverse City. She was 74.
Dana was born on July 4, 1951, in Flint, Michigan, to David and Dorothy (Sheaver) Kneff. She grew up and attended school in Grand Blanc, becoming a member of the 1969 graduating class. Dana continued her education at Ferris State College where she was met the love of her life, Cal. On September 16, 1972, Dana entered into marriage with Calvin Oliver Thomas at Brower Park in Flint. Dana's thirst for education did not stop, however, eventually earning her Master's from Wayne State University.
Dana began her career as a pharmacist before spending years teaching middle school science in Detroit. Later, life allowed her to move north and starting working again as a pharmacist. She spent time working at Rite Aid and Kronner's Pharmacy before her retirement in 2018. However, Dana's true calling and job was as a servant of God. She was strong in her faith and an active disciple of Jesus Christ. Her love for people was evident as she spread the word of God all across the country and the world. Dana was an instrumental part of Aglow International and several other Christian organizations where she could serve, teach, support and disciple to others. As a proud and joyful member of Resurrection Life Church she was able to create many lasting friendships through Sunday morning services, small groups and different ministries. Dana will be deeply missed.
She is survived by her loving husband, Calvin "Cal" Thomas of Lake City; two children, Michael (Amanda) Thomas and Melissa Bertelsen; grandchildren, Annaliea, Juliet, Olivia, Xander, Arya, Elijah, Olivia, Patrick, and Jamie; one brother, Dale (Kathie) Kneff; her sister, Debbie Kneff and her son Tom; a brother-in-law, Jim Thomas; as well as many other loving family members, missionaries and friends from around the globe.
She was preceded in death by her parents; step-father, Eldon Schneider; and her brother, David (Kathy) Kneff.
Funeral services will be held at Resurrection Life Church in Cadillac on Monday, June 15, 2026, at 3pm, with visitation one hour prior. Officiating will be Rev. Dan Klotz.
Interment will be at the Oak Grove Cemetery in Jennings on Friday, July 3, 2026, at 2pm.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to Resurrection Life Church or Aglow International.
