Debra K. Schermerhorn, of Traverse City and formerly of the Manton area, passed away on Thursday, February 27, 2025 at Munson Medical Center in Traverse City, Michigan. She was 68.

Debra was born on January 21, 1957 to Joseph and Sally (Brown) Lutke in Grayling, Michigan. She was a graduate of Manton High School, Class of 1975. On May 10, 1982 she entered into marriage with William Jeffrey Schermerhorn in Cadillac. Debra had a passion for quilting, crocheting and working as a seamstress. She loved helping those in need and it shined through her quilting work over the years. Debra joined the Lake Ann United Methodist Church quilting group, where the ladies made quilts for babies at the hospital's neonatal care unit. She made countless baby blankets and receiving blankets not only for her family and friends, but many others as well. She also donated much of her work to the Grand Traverse Advocacy Center, Women's Resource Center, Children Advocacy Center, Red Cross for hurricane relief, Joy Givers for nursing homes, and the Quilts of Valor for veterans, donating countless blankets for numerous charities and organizations. Above all, she cherished the time spent with her family, especially her grandchildren.

Debra is survived by her loving husband of over 42 years, Jeff Schermerhorn; daughter, Amber (Titus) VanDussen; son, Eric Schermerhorn; grandchildren, Philemon, Quinton, and Jaeleen; father, Joseph Lutke; siblings, Becky Lutke Vincent, Dee Dee Lutke, Karen Lutke, Gregg (Teresa) Lutke, Sharon (Matt) Godell, Brian (Jen) Lutke, Dave Lutke, Jenny Lutke, Amy (Russell) Farrell, and Kevin Lutke; numerous nieces and nephews; and many other loving family and friends.
