Dennis John Schafer

Dennis Schafer, age 76, of Lake City passed away on Saturday, May 10, 2025, at home.

Dennis was born on November 1, 1948, in Detroit, Michigan to Lawrence and Joan (Elias) Schafer who both preceded him in death.

He grew up in the Detroit area and graduated from East Detroit High School in 1966, and later completed his engineering degree from Wayne State University.

Dennis served in the Army Reserve for six years and then had a career with Ford Motor Company for 33 years before his retirement.

He was married to Cheryl (Stoskopf) Schafer for nearly 54 years.

Dennis had a love for sports, especially Michigan Football, and enjoyed spending time at his Dyer Lake home.

He enjoyed hunting and fishing and never turned down a good hamburger. Nothing brought more joy to Dennis than being with his grandchildren. His world revolved around their activities, and he was the proudest “Papa”.

Surviving him are is wife, Cheryl and their three daughters and spouses; Jenny (Chris) Bulthuis, Tina (Eric) Fischer, and Heather (Ryan) Rowe. He is also survived by his eight grandchildren, Spencer, Ashley and Mason Bulthuis, Libby, Lukas and Elijah Fischer and Hannah and Andrew Rowe.

A private Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
