Traverse City, Michigan - Derwin Leslie Dennis, of Marion passed away on Friday, July 13, 2018 at Munson Medical Center in Traverse City. He was 81.
Derwin was born on August 1, 1936, in Petoskey, Michigan to Herman and Ines (Secard) Dennis. He was a graduate of Marion Public Schools in 1955. Derwin answered the call of duty serving in the United States Airforce for five and a half years. He entered into marriage with the former Gloria Gumm in November 1963 in Manton, Michigan. Derwin spent his career working as an electric technician throughout his entire life. Derwin owned and operated Marion Radio and Electric with his father and brother, Dean, in Marion for many years until his time of retirement in 1989. During his retirement, Derwin held many jobs still working as a repair and salesman for several rent-to-own companies and Ford's Electronics and Appliances for the last 15 years. He was a faithful member of the McBain Baptist Church. He cherished the time spent with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Derwin is survived by his wife of 55 years, Gloria Dennis of Marion; children, Gregory Dennis of Escanaba, Sandra (Bill Simons) Dennis of Aberdeen, WA and Jeffrey (Kathy) Dennis of Marion; seven grandchildren, Michael (Mercedes) Dennis, Matthew (Danielle) Dennis, Amanda Dennis (Craig), Shawn Simons, Erin Simons (Brad), Kaitlyn Dennis and Gabriella Dennis; three great-grandchildren, Madison, Mason and Kaylee Jo; one brother, David (Nancy) Dennis; one sister, Diane (Keith) Smith; two sisters-in-law, Jeanette Dennis and Ethel Dennis and many other loving family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and three brothers, Dale Dennis, Duane Dennis and Dean Dennis.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 17, 2018, from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the Fosnaught- Holdship Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday, July 18, 2018, at 2 p.m. with visitation held one hour prior at the Marion Baptist Church with Pastor Doug Smith to preside. Interment will take place at Greenwood Cemetery with military honors provided by the Marion VFW.
