Donald J. Horn, age 89, of Prudenville, passed away on Friday, December 5, 2025, at home surrounded by his loving family.
Don was born on October 3, 1936, in Detroit, Michigan, to Ferdinand and Eleanor (Block) Horn. He graduated from St. Anthony's in Detroit and had attended General Motors trade school while going to high school. He later attended Lawrence Tech University in Southfield. Don started his working career for General Motors as a tool and die maker and later became a service representative for the Balance Engineering division. In that position, he traveled to several countries, including Germany, England, Brazil, China, Australia, Mexico, and more. He retired in May of 2000. He was married on November 18, 1995, in Shelby Twp. to Betty L. Bingaman. The couple moved to Prudenville, Michigan, after his retirement. Don was a member of the Houghton Lake Wesleyan Church, Houghton Lake Eagles, Samaritan Club, and was active with finishing the Artesia Youth Park. He assisted with coordinating Golf Fundraising events to benefit Artesia Youth Park. He enjoyed playing racquetball, baseball, golfing, skiing, snowmobiling, playing cards, and especially playing pickleball in his later years. For Don, life was activity, and he enjoyed people.
Don is survived by his loving wife of 30 years; Betty L Horn of Prudenville, children; Kathryn Holter of Texas, Dona (George) Soular of South Carolina, Denice Garon of Roscommon, stepsons Troy (Catherine) Miller of Algonac, and Todd (Beth) Miller of Utica, nineteen grandchildren, twenty four great grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild, sister-in-laws, Carol Horn of Clinton Township, and Debbie Horn of Texas. He was preceded in death by his parents, sons, Kenneth Horn and Eric Horn; siblings Jerry Horn, Dennis Horn, and Lillian Horn.
A Memorial service will be held at the Houghton Lake Wesleyan Church on December 20, 2025, at 2:00 PM. Interment will be in the spring downstate at Christian Memorial West in Rochester, Michigan. The family will greet friends at the church from 1:00 pm to 2:00 PM. Memorial contributions in memory of Donald are asked to be directed to the Oasis of Hope House, P.O.
