Dwight Wallace Obituary

Twentynine Palms, California - Marine Gunnery Sergeant E-7 retired first Marine Division, Dwight Louis Wallace, of Twentynine Palms passed away on September 22, 2017 at his home. He was 65.

Dwight was born on June 3, 1952, in Midland, Michigan to Clifford and Theola (Clover) Wallace. Dwight was in the first class1971 to graduate from Herbert Henry Dow in Midland. He then entered into the Marines, stationed in Twentynine Palms, California. Dwight started out as a dog handler, followed by serving as a Military Policeman. He ended his time serving as an intelligence specialist. His years in the service took him to many places including Hawaii, Japan and even Australia. The last part of his time serving was spent in the Gulf War. Dwight was honored by receiving medals for both the Liberation of Kuwait and the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement. Following his retirement, he went to work the remainder of his career for the Twentynine Palms School Department, which he later retired from. He loved spending time outdoors hunting and fishing. He also enjoyed football, skiing, horses and he was a champion bull-rider. Dwight loved the Marines and he was proud to serve our country.

Dwight is survived by his brother, William (Shirley) Wallace of Gladwin, MI; three sisters, Vella (Robert) Borton of Manton, MI, Marie Reece of Boyne City, MI and Patricia Klammer of Freeland, MI; 5 nephews; 4 nieces; special friends, Vicki Campbell and daughters from Twentynine Palms; numerous cousins; and many other loving family members and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers-in-law, Phillip Reece and Donald Klammer; and his great niece, KayLynn Marie Billet-Miller.

A committal service will be held on Saturday, May 26, 2018 at 2 p.m. at Fairview Cemetery in Manton, MI. Military honors will be provided by the Cadillac Area Honor Guard.

Memorial contributions may be directed to Vella Borton, 9560 E. M-42, Manton, MI 49663, towards a headstone in Dwight's memory.
