Earl LeRoy Meece, 92, of Houghton Lake passed away on Thursday May 14, 2026 at home with loving family by his side.
Earl was born on April 9, 1934 in Detroit, Michigan to Denzel and Dorothy (Gibson) Meece. He grew up and attended school in the Detroit area. On July 25, 1953 in Belleville, Earl was married to Rosie Stella Phillips. Earl worked as a Welder Repair person for Ford Motor Company for many years until his retirement. He was a 32nd degree Mason, Shriner, Order of Eastern Star, and Order of the White Shrine. Earl enjoyed fishing, hunting and especially working in his yard. His special love was spending time with his wife of 72 years, Rosie, and hooking up to the camper and go traveling.
Surviving Mr. Meece are his daughter, Juanita Sue Quirk of Houghton Lake; two sons, David (Linda) Meece of Allen Park, and William Meece of Houghton Lake; 18 grandchildren; 36 great grandchildren; 6 great great grandchildren; brother, Arthur "Butch" Meece of Swartz Creek; sister, Helen Azelton of Owosso; nieces and nephews. Earl was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Rosie Stella Meece; three sisters, Ina, Florence, and Martina; granddaughter, Jessica Quirk; and son-in-law, John Quirk.
Funeral Services for Earl LeRoy Meece will be conducted at 2:00 pm on Saturday May 23, 2026 from Christler Funeral Home-Houghton Lake Chapel with Rev. Bryan Thompson officiating. Interment will be in Roscommon Township Cemetery, Houghton Lake. Visitation will be held on Friday May 22, 2026 from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Christler Funeral Home-Houghton Lake Chapel, and on Saturday May 23 from 10:00am until the time of the service at 2:00pm. There will be a Masonic Lodge Service for Earl at 6:30pm Friday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions in memory of Earl are asked to be directed to Shriners Hospitals for Children.
