Luther - Evan Brett Vanderhoof of Luther passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, August 6, 2025. He was 59 years old.
Evan was born on May 3, 1966 in Dearborn, Michigan to Daniel Dee and Gwendolyn Lou (Schroeder) Vanderhoof. He was a 1984 graduate of Pine River High School and went on to study Auto Body Technology at Ferris State University. He was mechanically inclined and in recent years was employed as a livestock caretaker and general maintenance man, while serving as a trustee on the Dover township board. Evan enjoyed music and especially liked to plunk around on the piano and guitar. He had a great love for the outdoors and spent many hours walking the family land, watching wildlife and capturing it in pictures and video. He had a good sense of humor and was always willing to help a friend. Evan was a generous person with a love for animals, especially his cats.
Evan is survived by his mother Gwen, his daughter Ellen Vanderhoof of Greenville, his wife Amanda Tuttle and her daughter Anna, of Big Rapids, along with his brothers Darel (Deb) Vanderhoof of Remus, MI, Arlie (Sue) Vanderhoof of Clawson, MI, Branden (Darlene) Vanderhoof of Grandville, MI, Curtis (Dawn) Vanderhoof of Tustin, MI and his sister Lori (Bob) Stitt of Holton, MI along with many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. Evan was preceded in death by his father Daniel Dee Vanderhoof, and his infant brother Faren Gene Vanderhoof.
A memorial service will be held at Edgetts Wesleyan Church, located at 3446 N. Raymond Road, Luther, on Friday, August 29th at 11am, with a luncheon and time of fellowship to follow. Pastor Daniel Miller will be officiating. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Edgetts Wesleyan Church Food Pantry in care of the church.
