Francis Winfield “Fran” Staley, 78, Prudenville, died April 7, 2020, at home.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Monday May 24, 2021 at 11 am at the Lakeside Resort and Conference Center. Memorial contributions may be made to Munson Hospice, the Roscommon County Commission on Aging or Houghton Lake United Methodist Church.
He was born Feb. 25, 1942, in Midland, the son of Arthur and Viola (Draves) Staley. He and Jeannie Cambridge were united in marriage Oct. 17, 1959, at Houghton Lake.
Mr. Staley worked for the Roscommon County Sheriff’s Office for 37 years, first as a deputy, then a sergeant and then undersheriff, eventually serving as sheriff, starting Jan. 1, 2008. He received many awards and recognitions.
He attended Houghton Lake United Methodist Church and was a member of the Houghton-Higgins Lake Elks and Houghton Lake Masonic Lodge.
Preceding him in death were his parents, Arthur and Violia Staley; in-laws, Al and Helen Cambridge; brothers, Doug Staley and Dennis Staley; sister-in-law, Sally (Cambridge) Sutkus; brother-in-law, Ron Robinson; and nephew, Craig Robinson.
Surviving Mr. Staley are his wife, Jeannie; children, Tamara (Jack) Heckaman and Marcie (Joe) Allgeyer; grandchildren, Kyle (Brianna) Heckaman, Molli (Travis) Breen, Brooke Allgeyer and Haley Allgeyer; great-grandchildren, Eleanor and Arthur Heckaman and Lilly Breen; siblings, Ruthann (Vern) Soderman and Lynn (Joann) Staley; brother-in-law, Al (Pat) Cambridge; sisters-in-law, Treva Robinson, Linda (Noel) Griffin and Barbara Staley; and any nieces, nephews and friends.
