Gary Vernon Porter, affectionately known as ‘Porter’, passed away peacefully at home on October 25, 2024, at the age of 77.
Born on June 4, 1947, in Saginaw, Michigan, Gary was a man of many talents and stories. He had a gift for entertaining a room with his tales, whether recounting past adventures or sharing his observations on life.
Known for his resourcefulness, he had a knack for turning ordinary, everyday materials into clever home improvement solutions. Gary found joy while riding Harley motorcycles and fishing.
Professionally, Gary had a diverse career. He started in the phone industry, but his passion for knowledge led him to earn an associate’s degree in Accounting and achieve the status of a journeyman electrician.
Gary is survived by his two daughters, Vicki Musselman (Steve) and Kristine Laping (Chris), who carry forward his legacy of love for family.
He also leaves behind two cherished grandchildren, Steven Musselman (Samantha, Silas and Daniel) and Sara Musselman (Wyatt Lambert), who were a constant source of pride and support.
Gary was preceded in death by his wife, Gail.
A celebration of Gary’s life will be held, Tuesday, October 29, 2024, at 2:00 pm at the Young-Holdship Funeral Home, 403 S. Pine St, Lake City, MI 49651, with a public viewing from 12:00 noon until service time.
Memorial contributions in memory of Gary’s pride for U.S. veterans, may be made to the American Legion Post 300, 114 Main St, Lake City, MI 49651.
