George Eccleston Obituary

George D. Eccleston passed away peacefully on September 22, 2021. Living to 87 years of age. George was born on May 27th, 1934 in Detroit, Michigan, and was the son of the late Russell and Julia Eccleston. He was the eldest of seven children; Judy (Ken) Okray, Mary (Donald) Boegler, Glenn (Liz) Eccleston, Rita (late Larry) Meek, and is predeceased by Phyllis Risher and John Eccleston.

George took root in Detroit and graduated from Denby High School. Shortly after, in 1955, he proudly enlisted into the Navy, where he served as a Navy Corpsman and Medic.

In 1958, he married the love of his life, Margaret S. Crosson, a nurse from Kinnea, Ireland. Eventually, they started their family of their four beloved daughters, whom he loved with all of his heart.  He graduated from Walsh College and was employed at IBM, and then moved on to the Manager of Accounts Receivable Uniroyal/Goodrich/ Michelin Tire Company where he retired from in 1991.

George was a joyful and devoted Father, Grandfather, Great Grandfather, Uncle, Brother, and friend. He was an avid golfer, golfing in two leagues a week for many years. He loved going deer hunting with the guys too but, where you could find him most often was in his favorite recliner, in his living room at home, watching the Detroit Tigers or Lions with a couple cans of Busch Lite.

George was in the Knights of Columbus where he volunteered wherever and whenever he could be of assistance, like selling poppies in front of Walmart every year. He also ushered and was a member of the men's club at church, along with serving communion and reading the liturgy at mass every week. We called him Fr. George.

George is survived by his four daughters; Colleen (late Crusher) Sexauer of Fraser, Mary (Bruce) DeGrouchy of Goodrich, Maureen (Dennis) Tompkins of Bear Lake, and Kathy (Mitch) Kurkowski of Leonard. Also Grandchildren Ryan Bomek, Chris Bomek, Blake (Myranda) Bomek, Lauren Sexauer,  Bryan (Monica) DeGrouchy, Ashley DeGrouchy, Brandon (Anita) DeGrouchy, Spencer Tompkins, Austin Kurkowski, and Riley Kurkowski. As well as his Great Grandchildren MacKenzie Bomek, Savannah Bomek, Bryson DeGrouchy, and Makena DeGrouchy.  He also has plenty of cousins, nieces, nephews, great friends, neighbors, and including Flo Miesel, who he had many years of cherished memories with.

Mass of Christian Burial is scheduled at 11 am on Saturday October 30, 2021 at St. Malachy Catholic Church located at 14115 E. 14 Mile Road, Sterling Heights, Michigan 48312. He will be laid to rest at Great Lakes National Cemetery.
