Georgia Jean (Gierman) Nelson

Georgia Jean Nelson, 79, of Houghton Lake passed away on Sunday September 30, 2018 at the Lighthouse of Roscommon.

Georgia was born on June 24, 1939 in Port Huron, Michigan to Frank and Virginia (Mandley) Gierman. She grew up in the Port Huron area and graduated from high school in Flint. Georgia moved to the Houghton Lake area in 1973. She was married to Dean A. Kearns who preceded her in death in 1975. She married Richard D. Nelson on October 13, 1976 in Houghton Lake. Georgia worked as a cashier at several retail businesses in the Houghton Lake area including, Big Wheel, Carter's and Walmart. Later she ran a daycare from her home.  She was a member of Houghton Lake Eagles, Houghton Lake Moose and enjoyed camping and having fun with her family.

Surviving Mrs. Nelson are her husband, Richard D. Nelson of Houghton Lake;four sons, Brent Kearns of Houghton Lake, Blake (Darla) Kearns of Houghton Lake, Blair(Teri) Nelson of Mt. Pleasant, and Brian (Ellen) Nelson of St. Helen; two daughters, Gina (Jim) Lozon of Houghton Lake, and Darla (Blake) Kearns of Houghton Lake; 14 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. Georgia was preceded in death by her parents; first husband, Dean Kearns; and sister, Lois Garner. 

The family of Georgia Jean Nelson will be holding a Celebration of Life Services at a later date. Interment will be in Roscommon Township Cemetery. Memorial contributions in memory of Georgia are asked to be directed to Alzheimer's Research. Christler Funeral Home, Houghton Lake Chapel is serving the family.
