Harvey Hammond Obituary

Gladwin, Michigan - Harvey John Hammond, of Gladwin formerly of Harrison,  passed away on Thursday, April 5, 2018 at The Brook of Gladwin Retirement Community. He was 90.


Harvey was born on August 14, 1927, in Weidman, Michigan to Earl and Edna (Wiley) Hammond. He answered the call of duty serving in the United States Army. Harvey entered into marriage with the former Doris Marie Dieterle on November 30, 1945 in Beal City, Michigan. He spent his career working as a boiler operator at Ferro Stamping Company, Mt.Pleasant, Mi  for 20  years, and he also owned a party store on  M20 in Mt. Pleasant. He then purchased the Budd Lake Motel in Harrison and then later purchased  Harvey's Restaurant in Harrison. He also managed the Harrison Housing ( Croze Manor) until he retired. Harvey was a member of the Harrison Housing Commission , Harrison Lion's Club, Harrison snowmobile Club, Harrison Fire Department, Harrison City Council. Harvey enjoyed hunting, fishing, dancing, sports, snowmobiling, airplane pilot.. He was a faithful member of  Browns Corners church, Clare.

Harvey is survived by his wife of 72 years, Doris Hammond of  Gladwin; three children Deborah (Randy) Heber of Midland,  John (Cheryl) Hammond of Houston, TX, and Becky Groves of Midland; 18 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; 8 great-great-grandchildren; sister, Madeline Nagy; a brother, Kurt (Pauline) Hammond; and many other loving family members and friends.


He was preceded in death by his parents; sons, David Hammond, Thomas Hammond, Stephen Hammond and an infant son, James Hammond; brother, Max (Betty) Hammond; and three sisters, Orma Spalsbury, Dorothy Tiesa and Doris Dornbus.


Funeral services will be conducted at the Brown Corners Church 5540 S. Clare Ave. Clare, MI  at 12:00 pm noon, Thursday April 12, 2018. Visitation will be held from 10:00 am Thursday until the time of services at the church, with Pastor Adam Bell  to preside. Interment will take place at Maple Grove Cemetery in Harrison.
