Hazel Irene Lenkiewicz, age 98 of Lake City, passed away May 26, 2023 at the Maple Ridge Assisted Living in Lake City.
Hazel was born December 28, 1924 to Charles and Elizabeth (Chrispell) Apps. She married Robert Nichols on January 7, 1943 and he preceded her in death in 1983. She married Lucien Lenkiewicz September 19, 1960 in and he preceded Hazel in death March 14, 2008.
Hazel lived in eight different states and moved from Alabama to McBain in 2015, to be closer to her family. She loved to travel and explored France in 1987.
She enjoyed sewing, eating at restaurants, and she loved a good cup of coffee. Her grandchildren remember riding with her and her propensity to have a bit of a lead foot. She always had candy for the grandkids in her candy jar.
She will be remembered as an incredibly independent and strong woman. She believed in the power of prayer and would share with us that she included all of us in her prayers.
She was employed by General Motors for fifteen years and retired in 1987.
Hazel is survived by two sons: Robert Nichols of Sylvester, Georgia and Edward (Roberta) Nichols of Houghton Lake, a daughter: Patricia Hose of Lake City and a son in law: Irvin Dieterle of Ishpeming. Grandchildren: Sabine Schafer, Jeff Hose, Jody Wade, Ed Nichols, Lisa Stewart, Denise Platteborze, Michelle Freeman, Duke Dieterle, Tracy Keller, Ed Nichols, Summer Brandt, Jason Hose, and Jamie Dieterle. She is also survived by 29 great-grandchildren and 24 great-great grandchildren.
Hazel was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Keith Apps, two sisters: Eva Nowlin and Hilda Young, a daughter, Nancy Dieterle, a grandson, John Hose and a great-grandson, Tristan Dieterle.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, June 1, 2023 at 12:00 pm at the Young-Holdship Funeral Home in Lake City, with a time of visitation beginning at 11:00 am.
Burial will take place in the Lake Township Cemetery in Roscommon County.
