Helen R. (Korthals) Gretzinger

Helen R. Gretzinger, age 101, of Houghton Lake, passed away on Sunday, September 28, 2025, at King Nursing & Rehabilitation Community, surrounded by her loving family.

Helen was born on June 29, 1924, in Vassar, Michigan, to Gustov and Clara (Arndt) Korthals. She was married on February 10, 1962, in East Lansing to John H. Gretzinger Jr.. The couple moved to Houghton Lake in 1970 from Alma. Helen was a member of the Lutheran Ladies Aid. She enjoyed quilting, making cards, sewing, and spending time outdoors in the sunshine. Helen was an active volunteer for Hospice for many years.

Helen is survived by her daughters; Sally (Craig) Cotterman, Julie Wirick, and Tanya LeMire, step-daughter, Jean (Mark) Skaistis, and step-son, John (Wendy) Gretzinger, and son-in-law; Mel Evans, grandchildren; Emily Cotterman, Steven (Samantha) LeMire, Elizabeth (Shawn) Good,  Alan (Lily) Gretzinger, Leslie (Shannon) Skaistis, Jeffrey (Morgan) Skaistis, and Joel (Rachel) Skaistis, great grandchildren; Braxton, Karlee, Kasse, Ned, Lillian, Henry, Sylvia, Aubrey, Claire, and Ella. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, John, step-daughter, Jacqueline Gretzinger-Evans, son-in-law, Earl Wirick, four brothers, and a sister.  

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions in memory of Helen are asked to be directed to St. John Lutheran Church. Christler Funeral Home-Prudenville Chapel is serving the family. Condolences can be sent to the family online at www.christler-holdship.com
