James "Jim" R. Berger, age 90, of Prudenville passed away on Thursday November 28, 2024 at home surrounded by his loving family.
Jim was born on May 7, 1934 in Detroit, Michigan to James and Clara (Nicholson) Berger. He graduated from Redford High School. Jim served in the US Army during the Korean War Era. He was married on January 17, 1959 in Detroit to Elaine McBurney. Jim retired from Spartan Grocery Stores where he had worked in the warehouse. The couple moved to Prudenville in 1999. Jim was an avid golfer and was on several leagues at White Deer Golf Course. He was known for his ability to make golf clubs for many members throughout the years. He was a remarkable bowler and baseball player. In his later years you could often find him watching sports on TV. Jim was a gentle, caring and selfless man and will be missed dearly.
Jim is survived by his loving wife of 65 years; Elaine Berger of Prudenville, daughter; Cathy (Ray) McLeod of Houghton Lake, granddaughters; Dana Berger, Amy (Chris) Cherewick and Courtney (Julian) Aguirre, great grandchildren; Graysen, Payton, Camden and Everett, nieces; Jennifer McBurney, Andrea (Nick) Schemanske and Kathi (Mark) Cole, nephews; Jim (Julie) Davenport, Mark (Christie) Davenport and Dan (Stephanie) Stover, and beloved dog; Divot. He was preceded in death by his parents, sons; Daniel Berger and Larry Berger and sister; Mary.
A Celebration of Life Service will be on Saturday June 28, 2025 at White Deer Country Club in Prudenville from 1 pm - 4 pm. Christler Funeral Home-Prudenville Chapel is serving the family. Condolences can be sent to the family online at www.christler-holdship.com
