James "Jim" F. Mueller, age 78, of Prudenville passed away on Thursday January 30, 2025 at Munson Medical Center in Traverse City with his loving family by his side.
Jim was born on August 15, 1946 in Bay City, Michigan to Frederick and Helen (Mauntler) Mueller. He served in the US Army during the Vietnam War from 1968-1971. Jim received his Bachelor's Degree from Valparaiso University. He was married on September 16, 1978 in Grand Haven to Holly Warhurst. The couple, and their children, moved to Prudenville in 1987 from Williamston. Jim was a State Police Officer and the former Lt. Post Commander for the Houghton Lake State Police Post from 1987-1999. He served as a police officer for 28 years. He was a lead figure in the DARE program in local schools, served in the United Way and the Houghton Lake Merchant Association. He was one of seven members on the Central Dispatch Authority Board which worked to establish 911 service in Roscommon County. He was a member of the Houghton Lake Lions Club for over 30 years. He served as King Lion and President at various times. Jim was active in the Lions spring cleanup and Bobcat Field Halloween party. He was a member of the Kiwanis and served as the President for many years. In prior years he was very active with St. Johns Lutheran Church where he served as an usher and was past president of the church board. Jim volunteered at the River House Shelter and was a former member of the board. He was a Driver's Education Teacher after he retired from the State Police. He enjoyed gardening and working outside.
Jim is survived by his loving wife of 46 years; Holly Mueller, children; Laura (Justin) Schmidle, Shannon (Todd DeWitt) Phelps, Michael (Elaine) Mueller, Bianca Mueller and Savannah "Rosie" Mueller, Jasmine Parker, and grandchildren; Celeste Mueller, Klayton Phelps, George Phelps, Alexander Schmidle, William Schmidle, Alison Schmidle, Logan Mueller, Landon Mueller, Ezra, Arwan and Jensen, brother; Thomas (Terri) Mueller. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral Services will be conducted at 2:00 pm on Tuesday February 4, 2025 from the Houghton Lake Wesleyan Church with Rev. Bryan Thompson officiating. Interment will be in Denton Township Cemetery on Friday May 23, 2025 at 11 am. Visitation will be held on Tuesday February 4, 2025 from 12:00 pm until the time of the service at the church. Memorial contributions in memory of Jim are asked to be directed to River House Shelter in Grayling MI. Christler Funeral Home-Prudenville Chapel is serving the family.
