Jay A. Richley

Cadillac - Jay Arthur Richley, age 85, passed away peacefully on June 27, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family.

Born on November 29, 1940, Jay grew up in Saginaw, Michigan, where he was raised by his parents, Joseph and Marion Richley, alongside his sister, Janet Sproul, and brother-in-law, Steve Sproul.

Jay proudly served his country in the United States Navy for four years. During his military service, he served aboard a supply ship as well as a submarine. His time in the Navy instilled in him a deep sense of patriotism, discipline, and pride that remained with him throughout his life.  Following his service, Jay married the love of his life, Suzanne Richley, together they shared more than 61 wonderful years of marriage, building a life centered on love, faith, family, and adventure. They enjoyed traveling together and created countless cherished memories exploring destinations including Mexico, Ireland, France, Panama, and many other beautiful places around the world.

Jay was a devoted father to his two sons, Nicholas Richley and his wife Debbie, and Jason Richley and his wife Christina. He was an incredibly proud grandfather to his five beautiful granddaughters: Ashley, Alexis, Gabriella, Isabella, and Anabella. Nothing brought Jay greater joy than spending time with his family, especially gathering at their home on Stone Ledge Lake, where countless memories were made together.

An avid fisherman, Jay developed his love of fishing during his years in the Navy, and it remained one of his greatest passions throughout his life. Living on the lake gave him countless opportunities to enjoy peaceful days on the water, often with his sons, granddaughters, and loved ones by his side.

Jay was deeply involved in his community and dedicated much of his time to serving others. He proudly served as Commander of American Legion Post 94 and was an active member of both the American Legion and the Elks Lodge. He treasured the friendships he built through these organizations and found great fulfillment in serving his fellow veterans and community. His love for his country was evident in everything he did.  Above all else, Jay believed family was life's greatest blessing. His kindness, wisdom, unwavering love, and gentle spirit touched everyone fortunate enough to know him. He leaves behind a legacy of honor; integrity, and unconditional love that will continue to live on through his family for generations to come.  Jay will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him, but his memory will forever remain in their hearts.

Memorial services will be held at the Hitesman-Holdship Funeral Home on Thursday, July 9, 2026, at 12:00 pm, with visitation one hour prior. Interment will take place at the Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly at a later date.
