Jayne Samec Obituary

LeRoy - Jayne Ann (Miller) Samec passed away peacefully at her home on Rose Lake on April 11, 2026, at the age of 87. She lived a full and wonderful life up to the very end.

Jayne grew up in Owosso, Michigan, where she attended school before continuing her education at the University of Michigan and Central Michigan University, earning her degree in education. She went on to teach high school English at Flint Kearsley for 30 years alongside her beloved husband, Jim Samec, retiring in 1999.  A devoted coach’s wife, Jayne cherished Friday nights under the lights and was known for hosting gatherings after games for coaches, their wives, and cherished Kearsley staff. Her home was always filled with laughter and community.

Jayne had a lifelong love of the arts. She performed in numerous productions during her time at Central Michigan and later directed plays at Kearsley. Affectionately known by her family as the “Drama Queen,” she brought humor, flair, and a touch of theatrics to everyday life—a title that fit her personality perfectly.  Jayne enjoyed Hallmark movies, reading, and entertaining family and friends at her beautiful cottage on Rose Lake. She loved vacationing on Anna Maria Island, where she and Jim would spend the early spring months after snowmobiling season was over. She was also known for her unforgettable Fourth of July celebrations at Rose Lake, where she proudly served as judge of the annual boat parade.  Jayne also loved shopping, especially during “Deer Widows Weekend” in Birch Run. She cherished that tradition and the time spent with Jamie, Brooke, her sister Judy, her granddaughters Serafina and Ashley, her nieces Kammy, Heather, and Kelli, and her great-nieces Ashley, Alexis, and Kassidy.

Friday night football remained a highlight of her later years as she proudly followed her grandson Parker’s quarterback career at Oxford High School, as well as her great-nephew Bryce’s at Bedford.  She was a longtime member of the Rose Lake Book Club and an integral part of the Kearsley High School Teachers and Friends group, which gathered annually in Frankenmuth, Michigan for the past 55 years.  Jayne will be remembered for her contagious smile, fierce love for her family, the joy and energy she brought into every room, and the cherished traditions she loved that will continue to live on through those who knew and loved her.

She is survived by her daughters, Brooke Samec (Brian Devereaux) of DeWitt, Michigan, and Jamie (Lee) Fleming of Williamsburg, Ohio; her granddaughters, Serafina Saroli (Alex Klein) and Ashley Fleming (mother of Harper Kate and Hudson); her grandson, Parker Fleming; her nieces, Kammy Krimmel (John), Heather Mariucci (Aaron), and Kelli Dyball (Mark); her great-nieces and nephews, Ashley Wright (Joey), Alexis Mariucci, Kassidy Krimmel, and Bryce Krimmel; her sister-in-law, Jackie Considine; niece Tina Coon and great-nephew Tyler; along with many other loving family members and dear friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband, James Michael Samec; and her sister, Judy Lantz.
