Joan Katherine DeVoss, age 83, of Grand Rapids , formerly of Lake City passed away Friday, October 5, 2018.
Joan was born March 31, 1935 in Flint to John and Mary Virginia (Manning) DeVoss and graduated from Lake City High School. Joan graduated from St. Lawrence Lansing Hospital, School of Nursing with her registered nurse degree and served as a Leiutenent Colonel (1958 –1976) in the US Army during the Vietnam War. She received her BSN from Wayne State University in 1971. She retired in 1976 to Glendale, California and was employed at the Glendale Memorial Hospital until returning in 1990 to Lake City. Joan enjoyed taking trips through Explorer-Adventures in Life Long Learning, staying in Elder Hostels. Joan’s motto was “Honor God and Country.”
Joan was a member of the Lake City American Legion Post 300 and Auxillary and a member of the Elks Lodge in Cadillac and also the Calvary Baptist Church in Lake City.
She enjoyed reading and music appreciation.
Joan is survived by a sister Patricia Virina of Reno, Nevada, best friend Ruth (Everett) Burkey of Grand Rapids and many friends.
Joan was preceded in death by her parents.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 pm on Wednesday, October 10, 2018 at the Young-Holdship Funeral Home in Lake City with Pastor Brian Algie officiating.
A time of visitation will begin at 1:00 pm at the funeral home.
Burial will take place in the Lake City Cemetery with Military Honors by the Lake City American Legion Post 300.
