John Henry Matthews

John Henry Matthews, 47, of Merritt passed away on Friday, August 25, 2023, surrounded by his loving family and friends.

John was born on June 6, 1976 in Grayling, Michigan to WIlliam and Gloria (Sutherland) Matthews. He was a lifelong member of the Merritt and Houghton Lake areas, working most of his working life at Napa Auto Parts as a salesman. John was married on January 18, 2008 in Roscommon to his loving wife, Lisa May Wheeler. He was an active participant at Merritt Speedway, loved his family, and was a devoted friend. John will be deeply missed by so many.

Surviving John Matthews are his wife of 15 years, Lisa May Matthews; Children, Trent and Ashli Matthews; Grandchildren, Alayna Davis and Kevin Scriber; and his sister, Melissa Sharkey. 

John was preceded in death by his Grandfather, Russel Sutherland Sr.; Brother, Nathaniel Matthews; and his Parents, WIlliam and Gloria Matthews. 

A Memorial Service will be held for John Henry Matthews on Saturday, September 30, 2023 starting at 6:00pm.
