John Raymond Wellman

John Raymond Wellman, of Cadillac and formerly of the Saginaw area, passed away on Sunday, November 23, 2025 at his home with family by his side. He was 85.

John was born on August 8, 1940 to Louis and Leatha (Hollingsworth) Wellman in Saginaw, Michigan. He began his career working for Giant Supermarket in Saginaw, Michigan. John and his first wife, Nancy, moved to the Cadillac area in 1969, raising their two sons, Tod and Michael. His involvement in food sales and vending lead him into Paul Inman Food Associates, where he worked for over 30 years, until his time of retirement. During his downtime, he kept busy running a Christmas Tree farm for many years. On August 6, 2005 he entered into marriage with the former Betty (Ashby) Poli in Cadillac. He spent the remainder of his career working lawn and yard care service around the Cadillac and surrounding area for over 20 years, until his most recent retirement in 2023. He volunteered his time at the former Mercy Hospital, now known as Munson Healthcare Cadillac Hospital, helping patients for many years. John could almost always be found outside, whether it was riding around on his mower, blowing leaves, tending to his wife's garden or puttering around the yard. In his spare time, he enjoyed going to flea markets, and almost never passed by a garage sale he didn't stop at, often bartering to get the next big find. John loved helping people whenever the opportunity presented itself and had an extremely generous heart. Above all, he cherished the time spent with his family, especially his grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchild.

John  is survived by his wife, Betty Wellman of Cadillac; sons, Tod (Nancy) Wellman and Michael (Erica) Wellman of Cadillac; 7 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; brother, Paul (Pat) Wellman of South Carolina; numerous nieces and nephews; and many other loving family and friends.
  
He was preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Leatha Wellman; first wife, Nancy Marie Wellman; brothers, Harold Wellman and Leo Wellman; and a sister, Doris Gormley.
  
A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, November 28, 2025 at 11 a.m. with visitation held one hour prior at the First Baptist Church of Cadillac with visitation held one hour prior. Interment will take place at Selma Township Cemetery at a later date.
