Jose Escalera Obituary

McBain  - Jose Inez Escalera, of McBain, passed away at home with family by his side on Wednesday, March 12, 2025. He was 72.

He was born on July 17, 1952, in San Antonio, Texas to Anacleto and Leonor (Rodriguez) Escalera. On August 3, 1991 Jose entered into marriage with the former Pamela Ann Hatt, celebrating over 26 years together before her passing in 2018.

Joe was an avid fisherman who enjoyed visiting many of Michigan's inland lakes and on occasion even got to cast a line on the big lake. He created many wonderful memories with friends and family on or near the water, from younger years visiting the coast to trying to land the next big one with grandkids.  Joe certainly considered himself a lucky individual and would often frequent the area casino's to test that theory with his "one arm girlfriend".  He loved family and loved to gather with everyone to feast on some of his special cooking. Joe had a talent in the kitchen and was gracious with his delicious Mexican food for many gatherings and big meals.

Jose is survived by his children, Michael (Jessica) Escalera of Lake City, Tiffany Vargas of Lake City, Jose Escalera of Lake City, Heaven (Bayron) Sica Ajanel of McBain, and Max Escalera and Mateo Escalera both of McBain; 13 grandchildren; his siblings, Mary Esther, Gracie, Harasimo, Rosalinda, Mary Ann, Victoria , Diane, Mike, and Rudy; as well as many other loving family members and friends.   He was preceded in death by his wife, Pamela Ann Escalera, and his parents.
