Joseph David Jordan, age 83, passed away December 22, 2022 at his home in Green Valley, Arizona.

David was born December 31, 1938, in Strausbourg, France. His mother and father,  Yona Charney (born in Lithuania) and Joshua Graulick, met in Israel. His sister, Sarah  (Yinon, Avigdor-husband) was born in Lithuania.

David’s parents separated in 1940 and his mother moved to Israel with his sister, Sarah. David stayed with his father and they moved to England. They lived in London during World War II.

David went to Israel to be with his mother in about 1942. He lived in a Kibbutz with other children when his mother had TB in about 1947. He served in the Israel army as required when he was 18 years old.

JD came to US in 1959 and lived with his uncle, Oscar Charney, in Los Angeles, California. He attended UCLA from 1959-1963 and graduated with a BS in Mathematics. JD worked for IBM from 1963-1966 in Maryland. In 1966 he went to University of Michigan and graduated in 1967 with Master’s Degree in Mathematics. He attended Stanford    University of California from 1967-1970 and graduated with a PhD in Statistics.

In 1962 he married Carol Wade and had a daughter, Jessica and a grandson, Colin Carlson . David and Carol adopted a son, Jason.

David lived in Princeton, New York and taught at University of New York in 1970. In 1973, he moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico and taught at the University of New  Mexico. From 1974-1988, he taught at UCLA and commuted to San Diego where he and Carol had a beautiful home overlooking the ocean. In 1989, David and Carol divorced.

David moved to Rohnert Park, California and bought a home next to Mert & Betsy Smith. Mert & Betsy had previously had a home in Petaluma, California next to Carla Johnson. Mert & Betsy introduced David to Carla who lived in Sonoma, California and worked at Sonoma Valley Hospital Pharmacy.

David and Carla were married November 6, 1991, and moved to Beaverton, Oregon. David’s son, Jason lived with them and finished high school in Beaverton, Oregon.

David bought a Best Western Inn in Tualatin, Oregon. Carla and David then bought a home in West Linn, Oregon where they enjoyed hiking, playing with their rottweiler dogs (Boo & Bear), and entertaining their grandchildren.

In 2003, Carla and David bought their home in Green Valley, Arizona and moved there full time in 2013. They have many memories hiking and exploring Arizona.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. on Friday, January 6, 2023 at the Young-Holdship  Funeral Home in Lake City with Rev. Hyun Jun Cho officiating.  Burial will take place at the Hunt Homestead Cemetery.
