Joyce Laverne (Kaplan) Rapson

Joyce L. Rapson, 87, of  Houghton Lake passed away on Thursday December 11, 2025 at Munson Healthcare Grayling Hospital.

Joyce was born on February 27, 1938 in Detroit, Michigan to Sam and Marie (Dunn) Kaplan. She grew up in the Detroit area where she graduated from Detroit Cooley High School.  Joyce was married on January 25, 1965 in Redford, Michigan to Richard Rapson. Joyce worked as a bookkeeper for Graybar Electric in Detroit and Texas for many years.  The couple moved from Texas to the Houghton Lake area in 1990.  They owned and operated the Country Peddler Party Store for several years.  Joyce enjoyed watching Detroit sport teams, bowling, crafts, and animals of all kinds, especially her pets.  Her special love was spending time with her family, especially the grandchildren.

Surviving Mrs.Rapson are her daughter, Pamela M (Marc Peters) Pakizer; step-daughter, Linda(Kenny) Johnson; daughter-in-law, Vik Rapson four granddaughters, Michaelynn Peterson, Stephanie Bell, Samantha Lam, and Addreanna Mower; three grandsons, Justin Pakizer, Donnie Robbins, and Brandon Daniels; several great grandchildren; nieces and nephews.  Joyce was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Richard Rapson; son, Richard D Rapson; son-in-law, Bob Pakizer; and brother Marvin Kaplan.

A Celebration of Life Service for Joyce L. Rapson will be on Friday February 27, 2026 from 1 pm - 4 pm at the Spikehorn Restaurant & Lounge of Houghton Lake. Interment will be in Crestview Cemetery, Markey Township.  Memorial contributions in memory of Joyce are asked to be directed to the Roscommon County Animal Shelter.
