Joyce May Schad, age 88, of Lake City passed away October 27, 2023 at home.
Joyce was born April 1, 1935, in Tuscola County, Michigan to Leslie Emory and Lucille Victoria (Thane) Lounsbury.
She was united in marriage to James Arthur Schad Sr. on March 13, 1954 and he preceded her in death January 29, 2016.
Joyce was raised on a centennial farm in Michigan’s “Thumb” and graduated from Cass City High School as Valedictorian in 1952. She graduated from Northeastern School of Commerce in Bay City and was employed by the FBI at the Detroit Field Office. After moving to Cass City, she was employed by the Superintendent of Schools for a year. When Jim was employed by General Motors, they moved to Clio. When her sons were in high school she took employment as the Deputy Treasurer of Vienna Township in Genesee County for 14 years. In 1986 she and Jim retired and moved to their home in Lake City, Michigan.
Joyce is a member of the Lake City United Methodist Church and a life member of Vienna Chapter No 283, Order of the Eastern Star in Clio. She enjoyed traveling with her husband for many years and visited all 50 states, 23 countries, and several Caribbean Islands. She enjoyed ballroom and line dancing, gardening, reading, creative writing and puzzles.
Joyce leaves one son, James A. (Mitzi) Schad Jr. of Davison, five grandchildren, Peter Schad of Naubinway, James Oneal Schad of Milton, Florida, Matthew (Michelle) Schad of Davenport, Florida, Jennifer Fish of Wheelock, Vermont and Danielle (Dennis Anthony) Thomas of Milton, Florida and eleven great grandchildren.
Joyce is also survived by two sisters, Elaine Bila of Colorado Springs, Colorado and Rosemary Lounsbury of Mackinac Island, two brothers, Carol Lounsbury of Harrison and Thomas (Virginia) Lounsbury of Cass City, several nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by her parents, a son, Larry Thomas Schad, a grandson, Larry Thomas Schad Jr and an infant sister, Joan Marie.
A Memorial service will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, December 16, 2023 at the Lake City United Methodist Church with Rev. James Noggle officiating. A time of visitation will begin at 10:00 am until service time.
Burial will take place at the Elkland Cemetery in Cass City.
Memorial contributions may be directed to the St. Jude’s Research Hospital.
