Cadillac - Karolyn "Kay" Hoffman, of Lake City passed away on Sunday morning, March 16, 2025 at Green Acres Retirement Living. She was 88.
Kay was born on September 12, 1936, in Marshall, Minnesota to John and Beulah (Dhoore) Sanders. She grew up and attended school in Detroit at Saint Ambrose High School, graduating in 1954. Kay went on to receive her Bachelor of Arts degree from Aquinas in 1958, and her Michigan Elementary Educator degree in 1965. Kay entered into marriage with Gary C. Hoffman in the summer of 1959. While together they created a family of three children and two grandchildren. They were married for 50 years until his passing in 2009.
She made her living as an educator and taught for 30 years at McBain Elementary School, until her eventual retirement. Kay was loved by students and staff alike, and loved her job as an educator. She was a longtime and faithful member of St. Stephen Catholic Church in Lake City, as well as the Counsel of Catholic women. She enjoyed helping with events involving the church and visiting with other members. She was also a member of the Crimson Cloche Clique Chapter of the Red Hat Society and Mystery Sisters. Kay often spent time reading, doing crossword puzzles, and going out to eat with her friends. She also loved going to plays, spending time with her dog, and overall being a social butterfly. Kay will be remembered for her friendliness and caring spirit, along with her love for God and her family.
Kay is survived by her two granddaughters, Emily Hoffman of Grand Rapids and Madison Hoffman of Lake City; her sisters-in-law, Carmen Pasternak of Saginaw and Gail Sanders of Clinton Township; nieces, nephews, and in-laws; as well as many other loving family members and friends. Among those friends were Pat Martek and Bill Stankewitz; two of Kay's closest friends. Kay as well as the entire Hoffman family are forever grateful for their unconditional love and companionship. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Dianne Hoffman; two sons, Craig and Brian Hoffman; her husband, Gary C. Hoffman; and her parents.
Visitation for friends and family will be at Young-Holdship Funeral Home in Lake City on Monday, March 24, 2025 from 4pm until concluding with the recitation of the rosary at 6pm. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11am on Tuesday, March 25, 2025 at St. Stephen Catholic Church in Lake City. Interment will take place at a later date in the spring at the Lake City Cemetery.
