LaVonne Norine Pifer passed away peacefully on January 30, 2025 at the age of 90, at Quiet Creek AFC. LaVonne was a devoted wife, mother and true friend. She was a beacon of light who departed leaving behind a legacy of warmth and kindness. LaVonne walked through life with a gentle strength touching the lives of everyone she met with an unforgettable grace.
LaVonne was born on June 12, 1934 in Battle Creek, Michigan to Keith and Margaret(Bradley) Babcock. She graduated from the Seventh Day Adventist Academy in Battle Creek in 1952. In 1957, she married William Johnson and together they had three daughters, Karen, Julie and Janice.
In 1975, LaVonne(known as Lou) married Neil Pifer. They were a testament to love and commitment for nearly 50 years until her passing. Neil and Lou moved to Ypsilanti, Michigan where she worked for 20 years as an Administrative Assistant for Eastern Michigan University Foundation Directors and the Dean of Students. Lou and Neil were long time members of the Gold Wing Road Riders, serving as Chapter Directors for the Chapter W in Ypsilanti and Adrian as well as Chapter Y in Northern Michigan. After retirement, they started enjoying Michigan winters in Florida where they soaked up sunshine, ate ice cream and walked the antique and flea markets. Lou loved cooking and entertaining but particularly enjoyed time when grandchildren and great grandchildren came to visit.
LaVonne is survived by her husband, Neil Edwin Pifer, daughters, Julie Lee and Janice(Jeremy) Parm; step-daughters, Cheryl(Larry) Andrews and Sue(Mike) Mahaffie; brothers, Willard(Dixie) Babcock, Roger Babcock and Jack Eubank as well as seven grandchildren and fifteen great grandchildren.
Preceding her in death were daughter, Karen(Roger) Bradford and step-son, Mike Pifer; Also brothers, Gordon Babcock, Howard Babcock and sister, Nancy Persall.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday, February 2, 2025 at 4 p.m. with visitation held one hour prior at 3 p.m. at the Fosnaught-Holdship Funeral Home. A time of food and fellowship will follow at the Marion Seventh Day Adventist Church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to Quiet Creek AFC Home in Falmouth.
