Larry Johnson Obituary

Larry Johnson, of Wexford County, passed away on Tuesday, December 31, 2024, at his home in Lake City with his daughter, Cheyenne and her husband, Brandon, as they cared for him.

Larry was born on April 7, 1941 at his family home in Highland Township, Michigan to Robert and Opal (McCrimmon) Johnson. He was a graduate of Marion High School. He served in the United States Army during the Vietnam war from 1966 until 1972. Larry received his Bachelor's and Master's degree from Central Michigan University. On December 31 1981, he entered into marriage with Jeanie Olah - Johnson; the couple spent 37 years together until her time of passing in 2018. Larry dedicated the majority of his career helping others ranging from advocating for foster children to helping aid in the recovery of addicts. In addition to his passion for helping others, he had a passion for teaching inspired by his mother and used it to teach college at various times. He was an incredibly talented musician/ songwriter and performed original songs written with his wife. He was an avid fan of the Detroit Tigers as well as the Lions and he was a pretty good third baseman. He joyfully witnessed the Lions win on his last night surrounded by friends and family. He was a long-time member of the First Congregational Church of Cadillac. Above all he enjoyed the time he spent with his daughters and grandchildren. 

Larry is Survived by his loving children, Renee (Stuart Schwander) Olah of Benzonia, Jennifer McClelland (Darryl Woods) of Waters, and Cheyenne (Brandon) Johnson of Lake City; grandchildren , Timmy McClelland, Eric McClelland, Tessa Geoff, Cain Stone, Raven Stone, and Davy Saxton; great-grandchildren, Tony, Roman, Theia, Allie, Marley, and Parker; Siblings Sue (Dan) Teare, Tim (Teryn) Johnson, Deb Johnson, and Jill (Craig) Haney. He was also survived by his lifelong friends Dawn Shurter and Denise Davis as well as remained lifelong friends with his first wife Sylvia. 

He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Jeannie Olah-Johnson; parents, Opal and Robert Johnson; and beloved sister Kathie Johnson. 

A celebration of life will be held on January 11th, 2025 at the First Congregational Church of Cadillac/ UCC. Visitation with family will be at 12:00 pm with the service to follow at 1:00 pm.
