Larry V. Sorenson

Larry V. Sorenson, 83, of  Houghton Lake went to be with his Lord on Sunday May 9, 2021while at home with his loving family by his side.

Larry was born on January 15, 1938 in Wyandotte, Michigan to Harry  and Rosella (Roberts) Sorenson. He grew up in the Wyandotte area and joined the Army in 1961 serving until 1963. He spent fourteen months of his service time in France.  On September 29, 1972 in Southgate Larry was married to Margaret J. "Peggy"  Jones. Larry worked as a material handler for Ford Motor Company for 27 years, retiring in 1993. The couple began coming to the Houghton Lake area in 1975 and made Houghton Lake their permanent home following Larry's retirement in 1993. He was a member of the Houghton Lake Wesleyan Church, American Legion, and UAW Local #387.  Larry enjoyed golf, softball, and fishing, along with a passion to explore and adventure on the two-tracks with his snowmobile or ORV.                                                 .

Surviving Mr. Sorenson are his loving wife of over 48 years, Margaret "Peggy" Sorenson of Houghton Lake; son, Tony(Brenda) Sorenson of Tucson, AZ; daughter, Lori Sorenson of Inverness, Florida; three step sons, David(Melanie) Smith of South Carolina, Mark(Evelyn) Smith of Roscommon, and Thomas(Melissa) Smith of Melvindale; nine grandchildren, Jared Smith, Amanda Smith, Tim(Mandy) Smith, Brianna Sorenson, Savannah Uhlmer, Brandon Smith, Meagan Sorenson, Bradley Smith, and Clark Smith;  several step grandchildren including Jorge Lopez, Victoria Green, Michael West, and Donna Tocco; four great grandchildren, Kyler, Kias, Zander, and Seth; several step great grandchildren; one brother, Mike Sorenson of Florida; several nieces and nephews, including Wayne Carter of Florida.  Larry was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Virginia Reichoow, and Orvella Niemen;  five brothers, Vernon, Donny, Kenny, Elden, and Thomas. 

Funeral Services for Larry V. Sorenson will be conducted at 11:00am Thursday May 13, 2021 from the Houghton Lake Wesleyan Church with Rev. Bryan Thompson  officiating. Interment will be in Roscommon Township Cemetery, Houghton Lake. Visitation will be held on Wednesday May 12, 2021 from 4:00pm to 7:00pm at Christler Funeral Home, Houghton Lake Chapel.  Memorial contributions in memory of Larry are asked to be directed to the family.
