Leon "Tom" Thomas Cochrane

Traverse City, Michigan- Leon Thomas “Tom” Cochrane passed away on Tuesday, September 18, 2018 at the Munson Hospice House in Traverse City. He was 63.

Tom was born on September 10, 1955 in Cadillac, Michigan to Leon and Donna (Salisbury) Cochrane.  He answered the call of duty serving in the United States Navy Reserves. Tom spent his career working for Fiamm until his time of retirement 23 years later.  He enjoyed spending time outdoors floating the Manistee river , playing horse shoes with friends, and walking his dog, Dakota. Tom was a fan of the Beach Bums, Detroit Lions and the Detroit Tigers. He cherished the time spent with his grandchildren, and would often be found sitting in the stands, cheering them on, at any of their sporting events. Tom’s family and friends knew him as the kind of guy that would give you the shirt off his back; he will be remembered for his selflessness.

Tom is survived by his wife, Valerie Cochrane; children, Michael (Bonnie) Cochrane and April (Bradley) Weinrick; grandchildren, Breanna Perdue, Jacob Cochrane, Conner Cochrane, Kavan Weinrick and RaeAnn Weinrick; three sisters, Valerie (Scott) Jones, Kathy (Joe) Hurlburt and Barbara Beech; brother, Mark (Theresa) Cochrane; 10 nieces and nephews; and many other loving family members and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Leon and Donna.

A memorial service will be held on Sunday, September 23, 2018 at 2 p.m. at Rollins Christian Fellowship Church in Manton with Rev. Bart Glupker to preside. A luncheon will immediately follow at the church.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the Wexford County Animal Shelter, in support of his love for animals.
