Leslie A. Schliep, of Lake City and formerly of Alabaster, passed away at her home surrounded by her family on Monday, December 10, 2018. She was 69.
Leslie was born on April 25, 1949, in Alabaster Township, Michigan to Orville and Doris (Roiter) Stiehl. Following an encounter while attending a wedding, and after shooting Van's offer of a date down, she did eventually take up that offer which lead to their wedding on July 30, 1968. The couple celebrated the birth of two children and raised their family in the Lapeer and Laingsburg areas.
Leslie worked a number of years in the automotive industry downstate before taking her opportunity to move north. She retired to her little slice of heaven back in the woods of Missaukee County, in the home she and Van built together. Leslie was a passionate and instrumental part of the North Star Quilting Guild. She was able to allow her artistry to shine as she would focus on her love for quilting and helped to resolve the challenges of many sharing in the same hobby. Leslie could often be found enjoying a good book and will be deeply missed for her creative nature and love of her family.
Leslie is survived by her husband of over 50 years, Van Schliep of Lake City; her children, Heather (Tom) Stagg of Tustin and Van "Adam" (Jillian) Schliep of Vermontville; her beloved grandchildren; Benjamin, Daniel, Caleb, Lauren, Ethan, Andrew, and Justin; her brothers, Charlie Stiehl and Kenny Stiehl; a sister, Gail (Ron) Taylor; as well as many other loving family members and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
