Leslie Bernard Newton, 83, of Houghton Lake passed away on Saturday November 4, 2023 at home surrounded by his special friends and caregivers.
Les was born on October 14, 1940 in Chesaning, Michigan to Arthur and Iva(Rogers) Newton. Leslie grew up in the Chesaning and Houghton Lake areas, graduating from Houghton Lake Community Schools in 1960. Following his high school years Les worked at the Old 55 Hi Drive-in-Theater in Houghton Lake. He later was a DJ on the Houghton Lake Radio Station and the Owosso Radio Station. His true love was when he started working at the Pines Theater in Houghton Lake. After many years at the Pines he became an owner along with Louise and Steve Fraser in 1997 when they acquired the theater from Floyd and Ruby Huddy. Les was active in donating time, money and efforts to local charities.
Surviving Mr. Newton are his two nieces, Karen Pringle of Hemlock, and Debbie(Andy) Madonio of Texas; two nephews, Clifford(Sue) Newton of Birch Run, and Robert Newton of Saginaw; best of friends and business partners, Louise and Steve Fraser of Lake City, and Adam Fraser of Lake City; Special Friends, Jay, Bob, and Joanne Zavitz of Prudenville, Evan Wysznski of Mt. Pleasant, Joshua Fraser, Melody Fraser, and Kassandra Fraser-Kassuba all of Lake City. Les was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Howard(Irene) Newton, Roy(Alice) Newton, and Raymond(Ann) Newton; niece; Linda Marshall; three nephews, Dean Newton, Gary Newton, and Paul Pringle.
A Celebration of Life Service for Leslie B. Newton will be held at 1:00 pm Sunday November 19, 2023 at The Pines Theater in Houghton Lake. Memorial contributions in memory of Les are asked to be directed to St. Jude Children's Hospital. Christler Funeral Home, Houghton Lake Chapel is serving the family.
