Linda Lou Eckstorm, 81, died Aug. 19, 2022, at her Prudenville home with her family by her side.
She was born January 1, 1941, in Saginaw, the daughter of Howard and Shirley (Robinson) Datema. She grew up in the Saginaw area and graduated from Saginaw Arthur Hill. On May 6, 1961, in Saginaw, she married Clarence "Cal" Eckstorm. The family moved to Houghton Lake from Saginaw in 1971. Mrs. Eckstorm worked as a librarian and teacher’s aide and coached both basketball and volleyball for Houghton Lake Community Schools for more than 20 years. She was an active member of the Houghton Lake Athletic Boosters and an avid golfer at White Deer Country Club.
Surviving Mrs. Eckstorm are her three daughters, Stacey (Chip) Stead of Flushing, Shari (Brad) Deyman of Jennison and Shannon (Justin) Akin of Houghton Lake; two sons, Scott Eckstorm of Houghton Lake and Steve (Nora) Eckstorm of Prudenville; 12 grandchildren, Danny and Nicole Stead, Kyle and Callee Akin, Denny Miller, Melissa (Eckstorm) Gomez, Steven, Stephanie, Scott and Colt Eckstorm and Nate and Brady Deyman; four great-grandchildren; sister, Kimberly (Kip) Dobb of Tucson, AZ; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Clarence "Cal" Theodore Eckstorm; son, David Eckstorm; and two brothers, Peter Datema, and Keith Datema.
A Celebration of Life will be held October 1, 2022 from 1 to 4 p.m. at White Deer Country Club. Interment will be in Denton Township Cemetery, Prudenville. Memorial contributions can be directed to the Houghton Lake Athletic Boosters PO Box 563, Houghton Lake, Michigan 48629. Christler Funeral Home, Prudenville Chapel, handled the arrangements.
