Linda Dawn Vokes (née Whipple) passed away unexpectedly, but peacefully in her sleep at the age of 78 on Thursday, May 1, 2025.
Linda was born February 11, 1947 in Cadillac, Michigan to Lyle and Juanita Whipple. Linda grew up in Moorestown, spending her time between the family home and the family store. She had a strong love of animals and learned to ride horses from an early age.
She graduated from Lake City High School in 1964, and moved on to Central Michigan University with a degree in teaching in 1968. When her mother became sick, Linda took over the family store with her sisters, becoming a pillar of the Moorestown community.
She met her husband, George there, and they were married July 29, 1972 and made their own home in the same town.
Linda had a strong love of God, family, and community. She taught Sunday school at the local United Methodist Church, ran the town general store “Whipple and Co.”, all while raising five children.
She loved antiques, and together she and George enjoyed finding unique pieces to add to their home.
She was always available when anyone in town needed her; often leaving home during off hours to help neighbors who needed gas or groceries. Linda will be dearly missed. Her kindness, her love, her unwavering commitment to others, her wonderful laugh, will always be remember.
Linda was preceded in death by her sister, Patricia Jane Klein, her nephew, Barry Klein, and her parents, Lyle Alfred Whipple and Juanita May Whipple.
Linda is survived by her husband, George Stephen Vokes, her sister, Lois Ann Whipple, her son, Andrew Lyle Vokes, her daughters, Dawn Mary Jones (Jessie Lee Jones), Kathleen Cai Vokes, Juanita Quinn Lucey (Willow Lucey), Megan Deo Brianna Vokes, and her grandchildren, Jessie Jeremiah Jones, Atlee Stephen Jones, Fredrick Andrew Lucey, and Fiona Elizabeth Lucey.
Her visitation will be at the Moorestown Community Church in Moorestown on Thursday, May 8, 2025, beginning at 10:00 am with funeral services to follow at 11:00 am. Burial will take place in the Norwich Township Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions would be directed to the Moorestown Community Church.
