Louis Toth

Marion, Michigan - Louis Toth "Louie", 91, of Marion, went home to his heavenly Father on November 15, 2018, with his family at his side, after a long battle at home, with Alzheimer’s disease.

Mr. Toth was a first generation Hungarian, and the last born of Lydia and Balint Toth, in Elyria, Ohio, on March 8, 1927. After a family move to Detroit, Louie was formally educated at the renowned Ford Trade School in management, drafting, and as a tool and die maker. Shaking the hand of Mr. Henry Ford was an experience that he recalled with pride from those years.  Subsequent to his military service, he was officially trained in electronics - graduating with a specialization in radio and television, which enhanced his skills and eventually brought him to Marion. Lou proudly served his country in the 88th Infantry Division, the 351st Infantry Battalion, of the US Army during WWII, in Italy. Following his service, Lou met and married the love of his life, Joanne, in 1951.  Shortly after their marriage, they moved to Marion to begin his career as manager of Riverside Electric. Later, Louie took a position with the USPS, and after many miles, retired from that profession of service.

Louie and Joanne made Marion their home, feeling that the small town atmosphere was a good place to settle and raise their family. Throughout his lifetime in Marion, he gave back to the community in a variety of services: church leadership; as a volunteer fireman; Worshipful Master of the Lake City Masonic Lodge; CAMS, the Cadillac Area Modelers Society; the EAA - Experimental Aircraft Association of Cadillac; as a volunteer pilot for the Cadillac Area Young Eagles; and, other paths of giving within the communities. As a lover of singing, Lou’s booming base voice could be heard in the UMC choir and quartet; the traveling "Carolyn's Music Gang"; in nursing homes and other churches; and the "Amen Chorus".  Fishing, fly fishing and intricately tying flies, hunting, and times spent with family and friends, were always activities that Lou appreciated. He enjoyed electronics, and was able to repair anything he chose to work on. He found a community of friends when flying his model airplanes, his plane, and other organizations that he was a part of.  When Lou retired, he fulfilled a lifelong dream of becoming a licensed pilot and owning his own airplane.  Some of his most treasured adventures were spent flying his 1946 Ercoupe, with his beloved co-pilot and companion, Joanne, beside him. Lou based his life on his faith, integrity, humbleness, and compassion for others. He focused his beliefs on strong moral principles, and loyalty to family and friends. His example not only influenced his family, but all those who were touched by his life. His hugs, kisses, smile, voice, and love will be missed and treasured in memories of him.
Louie is survived by his wife, of 67 years, Joanne; four children: Renee (Scott) Myers of Traverse City, Robert "Bob" Toth of Marion, David Toth of Marion, and Diana (Bob) Cole of Florida; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and many other loving family members and friends.

Louis was preceded in death by a grandchild, Matthew Toth; his sister, Helen (William) Veresh; his brother, Robert (Marge) Toth;  as well as his parents.
Visitation of the family will be held at the Marion United Methodist Church, on Saturday, November 24th, from 10 a.m. until 12 p.m.   A celebration of life will continue at the church at 12 p.m. with a luncheon to be provided following the service. Interment will take place at Greenwood Cemetery, in Marion at a later date. 

The family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Cadillac Munson Hospice and the Alzheimer’s Association.
