Louis "Louie" Sutton Obituary

Louis "Louie" Vernon Sutton, of Lake City and formerly of the Cadillac area, passed away on Thursday, January 4, 2024 at his home with family by his side. He was 86

Louie was born on October 8, 1937 to Vernon and Beatrice (Besey) Sutton in Cadillac. He was a graduate of Cadillac High School. Louie spent his career working for several grocery stores around the Cadillac area, including A & P,  Olsen's and IGA. He also worked at Cadillac Malleable Iron for many years and spent the remainder of his career working for Cadillac Rubber and Plastics until his time of retirement. He continued working a "retirement" job as a mail carrier for the postal service for several years following. On May 23, 1970 he entered into marriage with Ethel "Joan" Sluiter at the Lucas Rehoboth Reformed Church. Louie always referred to Joan as "Ma". Louie could almost always be found outdoors, especially during deer hunting season. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, and made a point to go out hunting on opening of deer season every single year. He proudly shot a deer every year on his property for 53 years straight. In his spare time, he like to tie flies for fly fishing. Louie proudly took in several foster children while also raising a family of his own and dedicated his time to mentoring them. Louie shared a close bond with his hunting and fishing friends, Ernie Bonham and Clyde Powers (and several other buddies). The guys shared many hunting and fishing memories together over the years. Louie will be remembered by his friends and those who knew him as "one shot". He cherished the time spent with his family and friends.

Louie is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Joan Sutton of Lake City; daughter, Melisa (Charles) Lindsey of Cadillac; foster children, Tom Parkey, Nathan Schrieber, Aaron Curnutt, Robert Wilson, Jeff Goodspeed, Jchon Fricke, Juan Garcia, Dusty Shaw, and Robbie Flippo, along with several other foster children; sisters-in-law, Julie and Jackie (Sluiter); and many other loving family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Vernon and Beatrice Sutton; and grandparents, Louis and Annie Besey.
