Macel L. (Wheaton) Johnson

Cadillac - Macel Lenora Johnson, of Cadillac and formerly of Bangor, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 18, 2018 at Samaritas Senior Living. She was 94.

Macel was born on February 11, 1924, in Kalamazoo to George and Ethel (Race) Wheaton. She entered into marriage with Wilmer A. Johnson on November 19, 1945, at the First Christian Church in Bangor, MI. Wilmer preceded her in death following 41 years together in June of 1986.

In earlier years Macel spent time bowling and gardening, as well as enjoying many wonderful vacations traveling with family and friends.  She could often be found passing time crocheting or reading one of her many paperback books. She had an undeniable sweet-tooth and made certain her birds stayed well fed.  Macel will be deeply missed by all who had the opportunity and pleasure in knowing her.

Macel is survived by her loving family; her daughters, Carol L. Hall of Cadillac, and Diane (James) Birner of Breedsville, MI; five grandchildren, Gary Johnson of Bangor, Melissa (Mike) Whipple of Kalamazoo, Robert (Tiffany) Birner of Breedsville,  David (Bree) Hall of Cadillac, and Jennifer (Rob) Anderson of Marquette; nine great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; as well as many other loving family members and friends.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Wilmer; a son-in-law, Doug Hall; her parents; two sisters, Darlene and Velma; and a brother in infancy, Melvin.

Funeral services will be at the Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Cadillac on Saturday July 21, 2018 at 2:00 pm, with visitation one hour prior.  Officiating will be Rev. Joel Hess. Interment and committal services will take place at the Arlington Hill Cemetery in Bangor, at 10:30 am on Monday, July 23rd. Memorial contributions may be made to American Heart Association or Emmanuel Lutheran Church of Cadillac.
