Malvin "Mal" W. Rapson, 94, of Houghton Lake, passed away on Thursday September 4, 2025 at home.
Malvin was born on August 1, 1931 in Detroit, Michigan to Howard and Ruby (Pickles) Rapson. He grew up in the Detroit area and went on to join the Navy. He served as a SP 3 in the Navy during the Korean War. On June 6, 1953, Malvin got married in Redford to Barbara Ruth Clemons. After the Navy, he worked as a supervisor for Michigan Bell/AT&T for many years before his retirement. Mal was a member of St. James Catholic Church and the Roscommon VFW where he was a past commander. He enjoyed fishing, golfing, playing softball and being the team coach of his six sons on the family softball team. He was also volunteering at St. Vincent DePaul, and was an avid Detroit sports fan.
Surviving Mr. Rapson are his loving wife of 72 years, Barbara of Houghton Lake; daughter, Joann (Michael) Hewer of Canton; six sons, Timothy (Dianne) Rapson of IN, Richard Allen (Alfie) Rapson of TX, Steven M (Cindy) Rapson of Houghton Lake, Robert Vincent Rapson of Livonia, Thomas Patrick (Genia) Rapson of Houghton Lake, Martin Peter (Nancy) Rapson of Plymouth; 14 grandchildren; numerous great and great-great grandchildren; sister, Selma Evans of St. Clair Shores, several nieces and nephews. Malvin was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Richard Rapson and Edwin Rapson; sister, Ruby; and one grandson, Steven Rapson Jr.
Funeral Services for Malvin W. Rapson will be conducted at St. James Catholic Church on Wednesday September 10, 2025 at 11:00am from St. James Catholic Church with Fr. Michael Steltenkamp officiating. Interment will be at Crestview Cemetery, Markey Township. Visitation will be held on Tuesday September 9, 2025 at St. James Catholic Church from 5:00pm to 6:00pm with a rosary to be recited at 6:00pm.
