Margaret Lucille Green, 102, of Higgins Lake passed away peacefully on Thursday May 29, 2025, at The Brook of Grayling.
Margaret was born on November 7, 1922, in Lansing, Michigan to Abel and Estella (Smith) Rockwood. She grew up in the Lansing area and graduated from Lansing Central High School. Margaret was married to Kenneth Robert Green on November 22, 1969, in Lansing. The couple spent their working years in the Lansing area and both worked at Michigan State University. Margaret was a Secretary in the Chemistry Department for many years until retiring in 1990. The couple moved to Higgins Lake from Lansing over 30 years ago. Margaret was a member of the Business Women's Club at MSU and was a lifelong Spartan fan. She enjoyed traveling in the Southwest and was an ardent painter. She was also known as a passionate and excellent bowler even into her later years. Her true love was her home at Higgins Lake, where she would garden, go snowmobiling, and go down to the dock with her beloved husband, Ken, to relax on their pontoon and enjoy the lake and each other's company. Margaret always had a smile and a hug for everyone. She loved and was loved by all who knew her, and she will be greatly missed.
Surviving Margaret are her daughter, Becky Jo (Peter) Ehrmann of Roscommon; son, Edward R.(Julie)
Wood of Lansing; grandchildren, John (Alicia) Wood, Robert (Rachel) Wood, Amy (Michael) McGee,
Randall (Mary) Schmidt and Caren (Jason Hufnagel) Schmidt; fourteen great grandchildren; nephew, Lanny
(Cindy) Reed; and several great nieces and nephews. Margaret was preceded in death by her
parents, husband, Kenneth R. Green; son, Jack E. Wood, granddaughter, Jodi Wood; and three sisters,
Beatrice, Mary and Ina.
A Celebration of Life service will be held for Margaret at a later date. Memorial Contributions in memory of
Margaret are asked to be directed to The Brook of Grayling. Christler Funeral Home, Houghton Lake
