Mark M Tossey

Grand Rapids - Mark M Tossey, lifelong resident of Cadillac passed away following numerous health complications, on Monday, June 11, 2018 at Spectrum Health's Butterworth Campus. He was 58.

Mark was born on September 28, 1959, in Cadillac, to James O'Dell and Marjorie Beth (Longstreet) Tossey. Mark entered into marriage with the former Kathy Strieby at the Cadillac United Methodist Church on August 8, 1981. 

Mark had a passion for the speedway.  From a young age​,​ he seemed​​ to have oil in his blood and a love for anything fast, he even met his bride while racing ​at​ Merritt.  Racing was a major part of his life as he competed for decades with numerous different vehicles on both the circle track and drag strip.  Mark loved his family and enjoyed every opportunity to be with his grandchildren.  He appreciated laughter and created much of it with his constant practical joking and creativity.

Mark is survived by his loving wife of over 36 years, Kathy Tossey of Cadillac; his children, Jenny Tossey and Glen (Amy) Tossey all of Cadillac; three grandchildren, Taylor and Cameron Helmboldt, and Aleena Tossey; a brother Michael (Leona) Tossey; mother-in-law, Elizabeth "Betty" Strieby; sisters-in-law, Mary (Tom) Wenzel and Linda Kent; brother-in-law, Carl (Roxanne) Strieby; as well as numerous nieces and nephews; and many close friends and co-workers.

He was preceded in death by his mother just 12 days prior on May 30th, Marjorie, his father James, and a brother, Gary Tossey. In-laws Herbert Strieby, and James and Nancy Brannam.

A celebration of Mark's life will be held on the family's property just behind their home on Friday June 15, 2018 beginning at 6 pm. All that attend are welcome, and encouraged, to bring their race cars, trucks, and mechanical toys to remember Mark in a time of fun around a bonfire.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the American Heart Association.
