Matthew Leone Obituary

Matthew F. Leone, 71, of  Houghton Lake passed away on Thursday June 4, 2020 at Charlevoix.

Matt was born on August 27, 1948 in Detroit, Michigan to Frank and Mary (Sclafani) Leone. He grew up in the Detroit area where he graduated from Theodore Roosevelt High School in the Wyandotte area.  Matt served in the Army during the Vietnam War from 1968 to 1970. He worked as a truck driver and data processor for Ford Motor Company until his retirement.  Matt moved to Houghton Lake from Gibraltar in 2005 after having property in Houghton Lake since 1995.   Matt enjoyed going to the local car shows with his 1979 red Corvette. He was an avid hunter and fisherman but his special love was spending time with the grandsons.

Surviving Mr. Leone are his daughter, Mary (David) Heckel of Hancock; son, Frank (Tamara) Leone of Pottsville, AR; three grandsons, Patrick,  Ethan, and Fox; two sisters, Providenza (David) Cassel of Flat Rock, and Antonina (Steven) Guckian of Wyandotte; two brothers, Vito (Mary Clare) Leone of Woodhaven and Joseph(Donna) Leone of Garden City; seven nieces and nephews, Steven, Megan, Marisa, Justin, Jennifer, Molly, and Ryan;  former wife, Janine Margaret Carley of Hancock.  Matthew was preceded in death by his parents and nephew, Joel Leone. 

Mass of Christian Burial for Matthew F. Leone will be conducted at a later date from St. Stephen Catholic Church in New Boston. Memorial contributions in memory of Matt are asked to be directed to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, Memorial Giving, 501 St. Jude Place,
