Maurlin Robert "Bob" Fortlage, of Tustin, passed away on Friday, March 13, 2026 at Munson Health Care in Traverse City following a six year battle with cancer. He was 88.
Bob was born in Cadillac, Michigan to Erwin and Gladys Fortlage on January 31, 1938. He was a graduate of Cadillac High School, Class of 1956. Following high school, many would remember him as the personable front man and driving force behind Cy’s Body Shop, where he worked for over 40 years. Bob always took great pride in their work. Upon retirement, Bob would often be found meticulously working in his garden, cutting firewood, deer hunting, or riding around his property on his old Massey-Ferguson Tractor, which he enjoyed immensely.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Erwin and Gladys Fortlage; his sisters, Margaret (Steven) Franklin, Naomi (Ronald) Sias, and Audrey Wilkinson; and his son, Mark R. Fortlage in 2018.
He is survived by his loving companion 37 years, and “better half” Donna Whaley; his twin sister, Marian “Polly”(Jerry) Jeffers; and several nieces and nephews.
A graveside service at Maple Hill Cemetery in Cadillac will be held at a later date.
