Melvin Lyle Creger, age 93, of Merritt, passed away on Sunday, October 13, 2024 at home, with family by his side.
Melvin was born October 16,1930 in Adrian Township, Michigan to Frank and Jessie (Martin) Creger.
He entered into marriage on April 25,1953 to Clara May Storey at Merritt. She preceded in him death in 2019.
Melvin was a dairy farmer and took pride in taking good care of his cows. He very much enjoyed bird hunting and fishing, but he mostly lived for deer hunting and looked forward each year to that November 15th national holiday, where his farm in Merritt was the main gathering place for many deer hunters. He loved John Deere tractor equipment and always enjoyed watching Michigan Outdoors and Mort Neff programs. Time spent with family and friends were special to him and his great grandchildren always put a smile on his face.
Melvin is survived by his son, Michael (Carrie) Creger of Merritt and daughter, Sally (James Jr) Ghist of Gobles.
He is also survived by his grandchildren, Jason Creger, Christy (Shawn) Marcus and William (Kaycee) Elsholz; and great grandchildren, Alexis, Gabriella and Ailyn Creger, Logan Creger, Corbin and Sophie Marcus, Spencer, Brynleigh, Ryker and Laynee Elsholz.
Melvin was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Clara, a sister, Lucille Relyea and brothers, Alfred, Gerald and Wayne Creger.
Funeral services will be held Friday, October 18, 2024 at 2:00 pm at the Young-Holdship Funeral Home in Lake City with Pastor Steve Boven officiating. Visitation will begin at 12:00 noon until service time.
Burial will take place at the Butterfield Township Cemetery.
