Melvin Maes Obituary

Tustin - Melvin Victor Maes, longtime resident of the Tustin area, passed away at home with his family by his side on Tuesday, April 15, 2025. He was 67.

Melvin was born on December 10, 1957, in Wisconsin to Robert "Dale" and Lila (Staffne) Maes. He grew up and attended school in Marion. Melvin entered into marriage with the former Diane M. Bazuin on May 29, 1982, at the Lucas Rehoboth Church.

Melvin made his living working at Ventra in Evart. He could often be found outdoors enjoying his passion for fishing at many of the area's lakes, and occasionally out on Lake Michigan.  Melvin was part of the "Greasy Fingers", an antique tractor club, where he enjoyed showing, working on, and driving tractors.  He also was able to be part of the Mackinac Bridge crossing, driving a tractor across the Mighty Mac for a number of years.  Melvin spent time riding and caring for the horses at home, watching and feeding the birds, and most importantly making memories with his family and loved ones.

Melvin is survived by his loving wife, Diane M. Maes of Tustin; his two children, Danielle (Andrew) Nelson and Ross (Erin) Maes; five grandchildren, Kelsey, Ashlynn and Lane Nelson, and Joshua and Natalie Maes; his parents Dale and Lila Maes; two brothers, Dennis (Tammy) Maes and Randy (Mary) Maes; two sisters, Karen (Denny) Maes and Janet (Bob) Adams; as well as many other, nieces, nephews, loving family members and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm on Friday April 18, 2025 at Dighton Wesleyan Church, with visitation one hour prior.  Officiating will be Rev. Dylan Kelly.
